What i have done so far....

For my media A.S level we have to produce a front page and double page spread for a music magazine. Before I could do this i had to begin on a planning folder and complete a preliminary task. This way i could gain skills and an understanding of the programmes i would be using. So far i have completed:
  • A front page analysis of the music magazine 'Super' - This is where i purchased a existing music magazine and commented on the advantages and disadvantages of the front cover. I had to look at colours and styles, images used and the content.
  • A double page spread analysis of 'Super' magazine - Using the same existing magazine i chose a double page spread article and commented on the same aspects.
  • 'Every picture tells a story...' - this was a story board of pictures taken by myself of pupils during a basketball game with an analysis of each explaining about the frames and how they could be better.
  • Analysed two music websites - This was to comment on how they support the magazines and add extra information which could benefit a reader.
  • Produced an initial idea for the front page of a school magazine - This was a hand drawn a4 front cover that i designed myself. I had to take into account what i wanted to involve during my double page spread and think abut the colours and fonts i wanted to use.
  • Produced a draft copy of a double page spread which could be used in the school magazine - This was also a hand drawn design on a A3 sheet which displayed an article. I tried to use colours to match the front cover and made the article a focus from one of the strap lines used on the front cover.
  • School magazine photos - This was when i had to choose what i wanted as a photo on the front of my magazine. This had to be a medium shot and represent the school. I took multiple pictures, which i then chose the best and edited it ready for my magazine.

After all my planning i then had to produced an actual copy of my school magazines front cover using Photo Shop. During this task i had to change some of my original plans due to the program we were using and the space left on the page. I think that my final result looked appealing and would catch the audiences attention. I also managed to get all the relevant information on the front, along with my medium close up shot of a school pupil.

By doing this preliminary task it has ena
bled me to try out different skills on photo shop and gain a greater understanding of how the program runs. This will help with my real task of making a music magazine.

When i had finished my preliminary task i had to think about my carefully and come to a conclusion of what i wanted to be included. there were a few task which brought me to my conclusion which are stated below:

  • Questionnaire - i had to produce a questionnaire which asked the public what they would like from a music magazine. This was to gain a knowledge so i was able to produce a magazine which will have the largest amount of consumers.
  • Synopsis
  • Draft front cover of the music magazine - This was another hand drawn A4 page with the idea for my front cover design. I made about three attempts before i came up with something that i thought would appeal to the widest audience. This is when i thought of a name for my music magazine. The name is 'JIG'.
  • Draft copy of the douple page spread for my music magazine - Following the front cover i had to draw out a double page spread idea on an A3 sheet of paper. I had to think about the parts which i wanted to transfer over like the magaine name on each left hand page. I also had to use one of the main stories that had ben mentioned on the front cover. This draft design did not include text.
  • What i want in my double page spread
  • Photos for my music magazine -
